PM Modi, Film Fraternity Mourn Veteran Actor Kota Srinivasa Rao’s Death At 83

New Delhi [India], July 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the tributes to legendary Telugu actor and former MLA Kota Srinivasa Rao, who passed away on Sunday morning in Hyderabad at the age of 83.

PM Modi remembered him for his “cinematic brilliance” and dedication to public service. Taking to X, the Prime Minister wrote,
“Anguished by the passing of Shri Kota Srinivas Rao Garu. He will be remembered for his cinematic brilliance and versatility. He enthralled audiences across generations with his riveting performances. He was also at the forefront of social service and worked towards empowering the poor and downtrodden. Condolences to his family and countless admirers. Om Shanti.”

Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu also expressed deep grief, calling Rao’s demise an “irreparable loss to the Telugu film industry.” He praised the actor’s four-decade-long contributions to cinema and theatre and remembered his powerful roles as both villain and character artist.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu shared a similar message of loss, calling Rao’s passing a significant blow to Telugu cinema. “His unforgettable performances and legacy will stay etched in the hearts of the audience,” he wrote on X.

Rao, who served as an MLA from Vijayawada in 1999, was known not just for his acting prowess but also for his service in public life. He was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2015 for his contribution to Indian cinema.

Tollywood megastar Chiranjeevi described Rao as a “multifaceted genius” and praised his commanding screen presence. Actor Ravi Teja, who collaborated with Rao in over 10 films, shared a heartfelt note:
“Kota Babai was like family to me. Grew up watching him, admiring him, and learning from every performance. I cherish the memories. Om Shanti.”

Following the announcement of his death, political figures and film personalities, including Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, visited his residence to pay their last respects.

Kota Srinivasa Rao was born on July 10, 1942, in Kankipadu village near Vijayawada. He made his film debut in 1978 with Pranam Khareedu and went on to act in over 750 films across various Indian languages, leaving behind a legacy that spans generations.
