NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent wishes and prayers on his official X account for Ganesh Chaturthi. He wrote, “Heartfelt Ganesh Chaturthi wishes to all of you.” “May this holy day full of faith and dedication bring good luck to everyone. I want Lord Gajanana to give all of His followers happiness, tranquility, and good health. “Ganpati Bappa Morya!”
Ganesh Chaturthi, or Vinayak Chaturthi, is a 10-day Hindu holiday that celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed god who is recognized as the god of new beginnings, wisdom, and removing obstacles. People honor his presence with music, prayers, and colorful processions.
In Maharashtra, the holiday is especially spectacular because liberation hero Lokmanya Tilak turned it into a public celebration in 1893. On the first day of the festival, people bring statues of Lord Ganesha into their homes and villages and worship him with gifts, including modak, which is his favorite sweet.
Celebrations have already begun in Mumbai, where devotees are going to famous temples like the Shree Siddhivinayak Ganpati Temple. On Sunday, the city’s most famous idol, Lalbaugcha Raja, was shown for the first time. Many people came to see it because they believe that the idol, which is also known as the “one who fulfills all wishes,” will grant their requests.
The festival will last for ten days, ending with the “Visarjan,” or immersion of the idols in water. This is a rite that represents Lord Ganesha’s return to his heavenly home.
