On the occasion of Gujarat’s Statehood Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm greetings to the people of his home state, praising its rich culture, entrepreneurial energy, and dynamic spirit.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi wrote:
“On the proud occasion of their Statehood Day, my best wishes to the people of Gujarat. The state has distinguished itself for its culture, spirit of enterprise and dynamism. The people of Gujarat have excelled in various fields. May the state keep attaining new heights of progress.”
Earlier in the day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also shared his wishes and lauded the state’s diverse natural resources, historic legacy, and warm hospitality.
“Many greetings on Gujarat Day to all the sisters and brothers of Gujarat… Gujarat has always attracted people from all over the world with its talent, hard work and practical skills,” Shah said.
“I pray to Dada Somnath for the continued progress and upliftment of the people of Gujarat, who have made pioneering contributions to nation building from the Bhakti movement to the freedom movement and modern times.”
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also marked the occasion by congratulating the people of the state and commemorating ‘Gujarat Gaurav Diwas’, a celebration of the state’s heritage and achievements.
Highlighting the significance of this milestone, CM Patel announced an ambitious vision:
“The period from 2025 to 2035 will be observed as the ‘Utkarsh Gujarat Diamond Festival’, culminating in the Diamond Jubilee (75th anniversary) of Gujarat’s formation in 2035,” he stated via a post on X.
May 1 is observed annually as the foundation day of Gujarat and Maharashtra, marking their formation in 1960 following the Bombay Reorganisation Act. The legislation split the erstwhile Bombay State into two separate linguistic states — Gujarat and Maharashtra — to better reflect regional and cultural identities.
This year’s Gujarat Day celebrations shine a spotlight on the state’s development model, cultural pride, and vision for the future, with leaders across party lines recognizing the pivotal role Gujarat continues to play in India’s growth story.
