Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Mauritius late Monday night for a two-day State visit, where he will attend the country’s 57th National Day celebrations as the Chief Guest on March 12.
Strengthening India-Mauritius Ties
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted that the visit aims to strengthen the “enduring ties” between the two nations.
“Strengthening India-Mauritius enduring ties! PM @narendramodi has embarked on a 2-day State visit to Port Louis, Mauritius. PM will participate as the Chief Guest at Mauritius’ National Day Celebrations & also meet Mauritian leadership & dignitaries,”
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated on X.
In his departure statement, PM Modi emphasized the historical, geographical, and cultural ties between India and Mauritius.
“At the invitation of my friend, Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, I am embarking on a two-day State Visit to Mauritius to participate in the celebrations of the 57th National Day of Mauritius. We are connected by history, geography, and culture. Deep mutual trust, a shared belief in the values of democracy, and celebration of our diversity are our strengths.”
He described Mauritius as a “close maritime neighbor, a key partner in the Indian Ocean, and a gateway to Africa.”
Key Highlights of the Visit

✅ Inauguration of Civil Service College & Area Health Centre (built with India’s grant assistance)

The visit aligns with India’s Vision SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region), reinforcing strategic cooperation and development in the Indian Ocean.
Bilateral Agreements Expected
Indian High Commissioner Anurag Srivastava called the India-Mauritius relationship “truly special” and anticipated agreements in areas of:
- Maritime security partnership
- Capacity building
- Health and education
“This is a truly special relationship, which has matured into a strong, robust, and multifaceted partnership,” Srivastava told media.
Looking Ahead
PM Modi last visited Mauritius in 2015, and this visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations across all sectors. The agreements signed during the visit will play a crucial role in expanding cooperation in security, development, and regional stability.
