PM Modi Criticizes Rahul Gandhi, Highlights Welfare Initiatives In Parliament

New Delhi [India]: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday took a veiled jab at the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, stating that those who engage in “photo sessions” at the homes of the poor find discussions about them in Parliament uninteresting.

“Those who get photo sessions done at the huts of poor people find talk on them boring,” PM Modi said while replying to the motion of thanks to President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the joint session of Parliament.

Highlighting the government’s efforts to improve access to clean water, PM Modi stated, “Our government has given tap water connections to 12 crore homes. We have worked so much for the welfare of the poor, and that is why the President also mentioned it in her speech.”

Criticism of Congress and Past Governments

Extending his attack on the Congress party, PM Modi made a veiled reference to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, stating, “We had a PM, he wanted to be called Mr Clean, he understood the problem. He said if ₹1 leaves Delhi, only 15 paise reaches the poor. Only one party ruled in states and the Centre. This was pure loot, a very big ‘haath safai’.”

He further emphasized his government’s transparency in financial policies, stating, “Our model is clear, Janata ka paisa, Janta ke liye (the public’s money is for the public itself).”

Comparing his administration’s efforts with previous governments, PM Modi referred to the “JAM Trinity” initiative, which links Jan Dhan accounts, Aadhaar cards, and mobile numbers to ensure direct benefit transfers (DBT) to the people.

“We started giving DBT, Direct Benefit Transfer. We gave ₹40 lakh crore in the bank accounts of people. But look at the previous governments, how they were run,” he added.

As Opposition members raised slogans during his speech, PM Modi hit back, saying, “Jab zyada bukhar chadh jata hain tab aadmi bahut bolta hain” (People talk too much when they are disappointed).

Crackdown on Corruption and Fake Beneficiaries

PM Modi further claimed that 10 crore fake beneficiaries were identified and removed from government welfare schemes.

“Those who were not even Indians, not even part of this country, took advantage of Indian funds. Without caring about political benefits, we removed 10 crore such frauds and gave benefits to genuine beneficiaries,” he said.

He asserted that these efforts had saved the government ₹3 lakh crore from being misused.

Attack on Rahul Gandhi Over Constitution and Caste Issues

Taking another dig at Rahul Gandhi, who is often seen carrying a copy of the Constitution, PM Modi remarked, “Those who carry a copy of the Constitution in their pockets can’t understand its importance.”

He also criticized certain groups for promoting extremist ideologies, saying, “It is unfortunate that today some people are speaking the language of urban Naxals openly, challenging the Indian state and declaring a fight against it.”

Speaking about Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, he added, “For seven decades, J&K and Ladakh were deprived of their constitutional rights. This was an injustice not only to the Constitution but also to the people of these regions.”

On the issue of caste politics, PM Modi said, “For some people, speaking about caste is fashion. For the last 30 years, OBC MPs have been demanding that the OBC Commission be granted Constitutional status. Those who see a benefit in casteism today did not think of the OBC community back then.”

He also posed a question to the Opposition, asking, “Have there ever been three MPs simultaneously from the same SC or ST family?”

Rahul Gandhi’s Counterarguments

In his speech on February 3, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi raised concerns about the representation of Dalits, OBCs, and Adivasis in key institutions.

He also criticized the government’s handling of the manufacturing sector, arguing that the “Make in India” initiative had failed despite significant efforts.
