Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep grief over the loss of at least eight lives in a fire that broke out early Sunday in Solapur, Maharashtra. In a statement posted on X, the PM extended condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
He announced an ex-gratia compensation of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the next of kin of each deceased, and Rs 50,000 for each injured person.
The fire, which took nearly 17 hours to control, saw 11 fire engines deployed. Fire Officer Rakesh Salunke said that some fire brigade personnel were also injured during the rescue operations.

In a separate incident, a devastating fire in a building at Gulzar House near Charminar, Hyderabad, killed at least 17 people, including eight children.
Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma expressed profound sorrow over the tragedy, conveying heartfelt condolences to the families affected. He prayed for the early recovery of the injured and urged support for those impacted by the accident, according to a Raj Bhavan statement.
Both incidents have raised concerns over fire safety standards and emergency response efficiency in crowded urban areas. Authorities continue investigations to determine causes and prevent future tragedies.
