PM Modi Concludes Mauritius Visit, Honoured With Highest Civilian Award

New Delhi [India]: Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his two-day State visit to Mauritius on Thursday, expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam and the people of Mauritius for their warm hospitality.

During his visit, PM Modi attended Mauritius’ National Day parade in Port Louis and offered prayers at the sacred Ganga Talao. As PM Modi made his way to the revered site, crowds lined the roads for kilometres, eager to catch a glimpse of him.

On Wednesday, President Dharam Gokhool conferred PM Modi with Mauritius’ highest civilian honour — the Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean. Thousands braved heavy rain to witness the ceremony, held as part of Mauritius’ National Day celebrations.

Expressing his gratitude for the award, PM Modi said:
“I express my heartfelt gratitude for being conferred the highest national award of Mauritius. This is not just my honour; it is the honour of 1.4 billion Indians. It is a tribute to the centuries-old cultural and historical bonds of kinship between India and Mauritius. It is an acknowledgment of our shared commitment to regional peace, progress, security, and sustainable development. And it is a symbol of the shared hopes and aspirations of the Global South.”

PM Modi also visited the Ganga Talao, where he offered prayers and mixed holy water brought from the Prayagraj Mahakumbh.

In addition, PM Modi and Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam jointly inaugurated the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Public Service and Innovation, which PM Modi described as a vital hub for learning and research.

The visit further strengthened the historical and cultural ties between India and Mauritius, reinforcing both nations’ commitment to shared progress and development.
