PM Modi Briefs President Murmu On Operation Sindoor; All-Party Meeting Called Amid Tensions Post-Pahalgam Attack

New Delhi [India] : Prime Minister Narendra Modi met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday to brief her on Operation Sindoor, the Indian Armed Forces’ targeted military response to the Pahalgam terror attack.

In an official statement on X, Rashtrapati Bhavan said:
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan and briefed her about Operation Sindoor.”

The Indian government has also announced an all-party meeting on May 8 to brief political leaders on the operation and evolving national security situation.

Background: The Pahalgam Attack and Operation Sindoor

The meeting comes after India conducted precision air and drone strikes on nine terror camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The strikes were retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 civilian lives, many reportedly executed at close range in front of their families.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri described the Pahalgam massacre as a calculated attempt to derail the return of peace in Kashmir:

“The family members were deliberately traumatised… The objective was clearly to undermine normalcy returning to Kashmir.”

He added that intelligence inputs indicated more imminent attacks, and that India was compelled to act to prevent and deter further acts of cross-border terrorism:

“Our response was measured, non-escalatory, proportionate, and responsible… focused solely on dismantling terrorist infrastructure.”

Details of the Operation

  • Wing Commander Vyomika Singh confirmed that nine camps were successfully destroyed.
  • Col Sofiya Qureshi presented video footage of the strikes, including sites at Muridke, Bahawalpur, Sarjal, and Mehmoona Joya.
  • Emphasis was placed on avoiding civilian casualties and protecting civilian infrastructure.

What’s Next?

The all-party meeting is expected to address national security, diplomatic implications, and possible future escalations. India has reiterated that the operation was a targeted counter-terrorist action, not an act of war.
