Prime Minister Narendra Modi has unveiled a new defense program called Mission Sudarshan Chakra. Its goal is to protect India’s strategic, civilian, and religious sites from possible foreign assaults by building a multi-layered security shield. Modi said on Independence Day from the Red Fort that the mission will start to “expand, strengthen, and modernize” India’s national security by 2035.
A Defense System with Many Layers
The Sudarshan Chakra, Lord Krishna’s celestial discus, inspired the objective to use the latest technology to combine advanced surveillance, interception, and counter-attack capabilities. The system is made to quickly get rid of dangers in the air, on land, and at sea. The Prime Minister said that this new defense system will be a “formidable deterrent to any hostile attempt to harm us.”
This announcement comes at a time when tensions with Pakistan are still high. India started Operation Sindoor just three months ago to destroy terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam. During the operation, Indian troops hit nine terrorist camps and 13 Pakistani military bases, killing more than 100 militants.
Awards for bravery for Operation Sindoor
In his speech on Independence Day, PM Modi also praised the bravery of the soldiers who took part in Operation Sindoor. President Droupadi Murmu has granted a lot of wartime decorations for them. The prizes are:
Four Kirti Chakras
15 Vir Chakras
16 Shaurya Chakras
58 Sena Medals for bravery
26 Vayu Sena Medals for Bravery
Nine Uttam Yudh Seva Medals
24 Yudh Seva Medals
On the eve of the 79th Independence Day, the honors were announced. They included 127 gallantry medals and 40 distinguished service awards to recognize the bravery and sacrifice of the armed forces in a key operation.
