Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a new plan on Independence Day called the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rojgar Yojana. Its goal is to create new jobs, encourage self-reliance, and boost local manufacturing. The plan, which is meant to help the country deal with “rising economic selfishness” in the world, comes at the same time as US President Donald Trump’s proposal to put a 50% tax on Indian exports.
The new scheme will give first-time job searchers in the private sector a one-time payment of ₹15,000. The goal is to help almost 35 million people. The project is one of the government’s efforts to turn India’s population potential into “real economic and social prosperity.”
The declaration comes after the Union Cabinet approved an employment-linked incentive (ELI) scheme in July. This was also suggested in the 2024–25 Budget. This plan will give new hires in the private sector a month’s worth of pay, and companies that hire them will get money to help them do so. The goal is to add 35 million employment in the next two years.
The plan says that for new employees with a provident-fund base income of up to ₹10,000, the employer will get ₹1,000 as an incentive. The reward will be ₹2,000 for people who make between ₹10,000 and ₹20,000 a month, and ₹3,000 for people who make between ₹20,000 and ₹1 lakh a month.
The plan will be in effect for employment made between August 1, 2025, and July 31, 2027. It gives bonuses based on how much money employees put into the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO).
