Hisar (Haryana) [India], April 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp attack on the Congress party during a public rally in Hisar, accusing it of spreading the “virus of vote bank politics” and neglecting marginalized communities, particularly Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs).
PM Modi’s remarks come in the wake of the Opposition’s criticism of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, recently passed by Parliament. He said the Act aims to curb misuse of Waqf properties and return rightful ownership to marginalized communities.
“Congress has become the destroyer of the Constitution. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar wanted equality, but Congress spread the virus of vote bank politics,” the Prime Minister said.
“There are lakhs of hectares of land under the Waqf Board, but instead of helping the needy, land mafias have benefitted. The amended law ensures that Adivasi land cannot be claimed by the Waqf Board. This is true social justice,” he added.
Modi also claimed that Congress treated SCs and STs like “second-class citizens” and blocked their access to welfare schemes in the past. He contrasted that with his government’s performance in welfare delivery:
“In Congress’ time, SC, ST, and OBCs were denied loans and welfare. Today, they are the biggest beneficiaries of Jan Dhan Yojana and piped water access. Over 12 crore rural households now have water connections, up from just 16 per 100 homes before,” he stated.
The Prime Minister further accused Congress of disrespecting Dr. Ambedkar, stating:
“Congress humiliated Babasaheb, made him lose elections twice, and tried to erase his memory. They only used the Constitution when it suited them, including during the Emergency.”
PM Modi also reiterated his push for the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), calling it a “secular civil code” and hailed BJP-ruled Uttarakhand for implementing it:
“The Constitution calls for a common civil code for all citizens. Congress ignored it. In Uttarakhand, we have implemented it, but Congress continues to oppose.”
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister flagged off the first direct commercial flight between Hisar and Ayodhya, and laid the foundation stone for the new terminal at Hisar Airport, along with other developmental projects in the region.
