After making a big splash in the Hurun India Rich List 2025, Alakh Pandey, the founder of the edtech unicorn PhysicsWallah (PW), has become one of India’s most talked-about businesspeople. His personal wealth climbed by 223% to ₹14,510 crore, which is more than the net worth of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, whose wealth grew to ₹12,490 crore this year.
The spectacular rise of PhysicsWallah
Pandey’s wealth has grown since PhysicsWallah has done so well financially. The company’s net loss went down to ₹243 crore in FY25, which is a big improvement from ₹1,131 crore the year before. At the same time, its sales rose 49% from ₹1,940 crore to ₹2,886 crore, showing how much more powerful it is becoming in the competitive edtech sector.
Shah Rukh Khan joins the billionaire club.
Shah Rukh Khan reached a big goal when he joined the billionaire club for the first time, even though Pandey passed him. His fortune grew by 71% each year since his production company, Red Chillies Entertainment, which he co-owns with his wife Gauri Khan, made ₹85 crore in net profit in FY23.
SRK’s hit movie Jawan made him even more money, bringing in ₹640.25 crore in India and an astonishing ₹1,160 crore around the world.
PhysicsWallah is getting ready for an IPO.
PhysicsWallah has filed new documents with SEBI for a ₹3,820 crore initial public offering (IPO) because the company is growing so quickly. The IPO would include a new issuance of ₹3,100 crore and an offer-for-sale (OFS) worth ₹720 crore. Alakh Pandey and Prateek Maheshwari want to sell shares for ₹360 crore each.
Hornbill, WestBridge Capital, and GSV Ventures are some of the big investors that support the edtech powerhouse. Kotak Mahindra Capital, Goldman Sachs (India) Securities, JP Morgan India, and Axis Capital are some of the biggest banks that have been chosen to run the IPO.
From being a teacher on YouTube to becoming a millionaire businessman
The narrative of Alakh Pandey is one of determination and new ideas. After dropping out of Harcourt Butler Technical University in 2016, he started teaching on YouTube and turned his digital classroom into one of India’s fastest-growing edtech enterprises. PhysicsWallah is worth a billion dollars now, and Pandey himself is an example of the power of hard work and the knowledge-driven economy.
