Peter Straughan Wins Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar For ‘Conclave’ at 2025 Academy Awards

Los Angeles [US], March 3: British playwright Peter Straughan took home the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 2025 Academy Awards for his work on Conclave, a gripping papal thriller based on Robert Harris’s novel.

Conclave tells the story of Cardinal Lawrence (played by Ralph Fiennes), who is tasked with overseeing the secretive process following the unexpected death of a beloved Pope. As the most powerful leaders of the Catholic Church gather in the Vatican, Lawrence finds himself at the heart of a conspiracy and discovers a shocking secret that could potentially rock the foundations of The Church.

The film inclusive features a strong ensemble cast, including Sergio Castellitto, John Lithgow, Isabella Rossellini, and Ralph Fiennes.

This year’s Academy Awards ceremony was hosted by Conan O’Brien and executive produced by Raj Kapoor, Katy Mullan, and Rob Pain. Producers for the event included Sarah Levine Hall, Taryn Hurd, Jeff Ross, and Mike Sweeney, with Hamish Hamilton serving as the director.
