July 23, 2023: Fans of Pedro Pascal and the filmmaking team of Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden can mark their calendars because their new movie, “Freaky Tales,” now has a streaming release date. The long-awaited movie will only be available to stream on HBO Max in the US starting on August 8, 2025. The movie will also be shown on the HBO linear channel on Saturday, August 9, at 8:00 p.m. ET for anyone who like regular TV.
“Freaky Tales” is a one-of-a-kind story that takes place in 1987 Oakland, California, and has a “multi-track mixtape of colorful characters.” The movie combines several plots and characters, such as an NBA star, a crooked police officer, a rising female rap duo, unruly teenage punks, threatening neo-Nazis, and a relentless debt collector. These different individuals are on a collision path in what looks like a fever dream of dramatic fights and showdowns.
Along with Pedro Pascal, the star-studded cast includes a number of well-known actors. People can look forward to performances by Ben Mendelsohn, Jay Ellis, Normani, Dominique Thorne, Jack Champion, Ji-young Yoo, Angus Cloud, and even a cameo by Tom Hanks, a well-known actor.
Last year’s Sundance Film Festival was the first time people heard about “Freaky Tales.” It got a lot of good reviews there. It came out in theaters on April 4, 2025, and then it will be available to stream.
Pascal’s Busy Year: From HBO Max to Marvel
This news makes an already busy year for Pedro Pascal even busier. He recently made his long-awaited debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). In the Marvel movie “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” which was out on July 25, 2025, Pascal played Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic.
The cast of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is amazing. Vanessa Kirby plays Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn plays Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach plays Ben Grimm/The Thing. The movie is a big part of the Marvel universe, and Pascal and the rest of the “Fantastic Four” gang have already been confirmed to reprise their roles in the next “Avengers: Doomsday,” which will come out in 2026. Reports say that Pascal has been working hard to get ready for his part as the stretchy Reed Richards, using the character’s unusual elastic powers as inspiration.
