Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh): The IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was abandoned due to a floodlight failure at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium on Thursday evening.
“Match has been called off,” confirmed Punjab Kings via their official social media platform, after prolonged delays left fans and players waiting for a resolution.
At the time of stoppage, PBKS were in a dominant position at 122/1 in 10.1 overs, with Prabhsimran Singh (50)* and Shreyas Iyer (0)* at the crease. Priyansh Arya had earlier dazzled the crowd with a 25-ball 70, continuing his fine form this season.
The match saw a fiery start from the PBKS openers, who raced to 69/0 by the end of the powerplay. Both Arya and Prabhsimran reached half-centuries in under 30 balls, setting the tone for what could have been a high-scoring thriller.
However, technical issues with the floodlights halted play and eventually led to the cancellation, leaving fans disappointed. Outside the stadium, chants of ‘Pakistan Murdabad’ were reportedly heard, reflecting public sentiment amid the ongoing Indo-Pak tensions.
Following the abandonment, both teams returned to their hotels and fans were urged to vacate the venue.
