Washington [US], January 6: The 82nd Annual Golden Globe Awards marked the official start of the 2025 awards season, and Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia made her mark with her film All We Imagine As Light. The film earned two prestigious nominations: Best Director for Kapadia herself and Best Motion Picture in a Non-English Language.
Held at the iconic Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, the Golden Globe Awards drew Hollywood’s elite, with stars such as Angelina Jolie, Ariana Grande, and Colman Domingo gracing the red carpet. However, for India, the evening held extra significance as Payal Kapadia’s film garnered international recognition.
All We Imagine As Light is nominated for Best Director, where Kapadia faces stiff competition from renowned filmmakers like Jacques Audiard (Emilia Perez), Sean Baker (Anora), and Edward Berger (Conclave). The film also competes for Best Motion Picture in a Non-English Language, alongside other critically acclaimed titles like Emilia Perez, The Girl with the Needle, I’m Still Here, and The Seed of the Sacred Fig.
On the red carpet, Kapadia looked radiant in a customized black dress, her hair styled in a messy bun. She posed with pride as she represented India at one of Hollywood’s most prestigious events.
The Golden Globe Awards were broadcast live on CBS and streamed on Paramount+, with the ceremony available for live streaming in India via Lionsgate Play starting January 6 at 6:30 AM IST. The star-studded event also included an impressive lineup of presenters, such as Andrew Garfield, Michelle Yeoh, Jennifer Coolidge, Dwayne Johnson, and Gal Gadot.
In addition to the main ceremony, the Golden Globe festivities featured a pre-event, the Golden Gala, where Viola Davis was honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award for her outstanding contributions to the entertainment industry, and Ted Danson received the Carol Burnett Award for his exceptional television career. The gala was attended by Hollywood icons like Meryl Streep, Jane Fonda, and Carol Burnett, adding a special touch to the evening.
