New Delhi [India], January 7: While Payal Kapadia’s film All We Imagine As Light did not win at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, the director expressed deep gratitude for the journey and the memories created along the way. The film, nominated in two prestigious categories, did not take home any awards during the ceremony held on Sunday (early Monday morning in India) in Los Angeles.
Despite the setback, Kapadia considered the experience a personal triumph, marking growth and joy. She shared her thoughts in an Instagram post, showing a picture with the producers of All We Imagine As Light — Thomas Hakim, Julien Graff, and Ranabir Das — and captioned it, “We didn’t win anything but had sooo much fun.”
The film was nominated for Best Non-English Language Motion Picture and Best Director, but lost out to Emilia Perez, a French film, and The Brutalist‘s Brady Corbet, who won Best Director. Despite the losses, Kapadia emphasized the positive aspects of the event, particularly the fun and camaraderie that came with it.
She also expressed appreciation for her Golden Globes look, thanking designer Payal Khandwala for the “amazing outfit” and stylist Indrakshi Pattanaik for her kindness and support. Kapadia wore a handwoven jumpsuit made from lightweight matte silk, featuring brocade details on the pockets and a signature loop neck design.
While All We Imagine As Light did not win at the Golden Globes, the film made history in 2024 by becoming the first Indian film to win the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. The Indo-French co-production, starring Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, and Chhaya Kadam, explores the story of Prabha, a troubled nurse, and Anu, her young roommate, as they confront their desires on a trip to a beach town.
