Rajamahendravaram, Andhra Pradesh: In a major boost to cultural and heritage tourism in Andhra Pradesh, Deputy Chief Minister K Pawan Kalyan and Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat laid the foundation stone for the ₹94 crore Akhanda Godavari Project on Thursday in Rajamahendravaram.
Describing the project as a “significant milestone” for the Godavari region, Pawan Kalyan said the initiative aligns with the cultural, spiritual, and economic aspirations of Andhra Pradesh.
“This project marks a milestone in harnessing the potential of the Godavari region. With the 2027 Godavari Pushkarams approaching, it will redefine cultural heritage tourism in the state,” he said in a post on X.
Kalyan expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of Culture, and the Ministry of Tourism for their support, highlighting components such as:
- Revitalisation of the iconic Havelock Bridge
- Redevelopment of Pushkar Ghat
- Creation of a Kadiyam Nursery Experience Centre
- Pilgrim infrastructure enhancements at Nidadavolu
Union Minister Shekhawat echoed similar sentiments, stating:
“At a cost of ₹94.44 crore, this transformative cultural-tourism project under the SASCI scheme will usher in a new era for Godavari’s spiritual and economic landscape.”
He lauded the state government’s efforts and said the initiative would attract both domestic and international tourists while preserving the region’s rich heritage.
The Akhanda Godavari Project is expected to play a pivotal role in preparations for the upcoming Godavari Pushkarams in 2027, a major spiritual and cultural event held every 12 years.
