Washington DC [US], February 26: Patrick Wilson, known for his role in The Conjuring franchise, has joined the cast of the highly anticipated Apple TV+ series Cape Fear, starring Amy Adams and Javier Bardem.
The series, based on John D. MacDonald’s novel The Executioners, which inspired both the 1962 film directed by J. Lee Thompson and the 1991 Martin Scorsese remake, is described as a tense, Hitchcockian thriller. The 10-episode series will explore America’s obsession with true crime in the 21st century.
Cape Fear centers around happily married attorneys Amanda (Amy Adams) and Steve Bowden, whose lives take a dark turn when Max Cady (Javier Bardem), a notorious killer from their past, is released from prison.
Patrick Wilson, renowned for his work in The Conjuring and Insidious franchises, as well as his directing role in Insidious: The Red Door (2023), joins the star-studded ensemble. Wilson’s other notable credits include Aquaman, Watchmen, Little Children, and HBO’s Angels in America.
Amy Adams, a six-time Academy Award nominee, is known for her acclaimed roles in Arrival, Julie and Julia, American Hustle, and the HBO limited series Sharp Objects, for which she earned an Emmy nomination. Adams will not only star in Cape Fear but also serve as an executive producer.
In addition to Adams and Bardem, Nick Antosca will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Antosca will executive produce alongside Alex Hedlund under their Eat the Cat banner. Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese will also serve as executive producers, with Spielberg producing through Amblin Television alongside Daryl Frank and Justin Falvey. UCP will handle production.
Cape Fear promises to be a gripping psychological thriller exploring the darker sides of human nature and crime, blending classic suspense with modern societal commentary.
