RCB Captain Rajat Patidar Reflects On Batting Collapse After Loss To DC In IPL 2025

Bengaluru (Karnataka): After a disappointing loss to Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 24 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar admitted that his team underperformed with the bat, despite expecting favorable conditions at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

RCB, who looked in control at 80/1, suffered a dramatic collapse, losing three quick wickets to slump to 90/4 — a moment that shifted the game’s momentum in DC’s favor. Patidar acknowledged the failure to capitalize on a promising start and credited Tim David’s finishing effort and the team’s bowling during the powerplay.

“I think the way we saw the wicket was quite different. We thought it was a nice batting wicket, but we didn’t bat well. I don’t think so (if the batters were overconfident); every batter was in a good frame of mind, showing proper intent. But it wasn’t acceptable to go from 80 for 1 to 90 for 4, we have a good batting line-up, but we need to assess the situation. That has been positive. The way Tim David accelerated was amazing, and the bowling in the powerplay was special. We aren’t thinking about our away record, but we just need to play good cricket and keep it simple,” said Rajat Patidar during the post-match presentation.

Earlier, RCB posted 163/7 thanks to a late flurry from Tim David, who gave the innings much-needed momentum in the final overs. But Delhi’s spin duo — Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam — staged a strong fightback to restrict what once looked like a potential 180+ total.

In response, KL Rahul starred yet again for Delhi Capitals with a match-winning 93 off 53 balls*, guiding DC to a comfortable six-wicket win with 13 balls to spare. This marked Delhi’s fourth win on the trot, helping them solidify their spot in the top half of the IPL table.

Axar Patel’s leadership, Rahul’s heroics, and a well-rounded team performance allowed DC to hand RCB their second straight home defeat in the tournament.
