Parliament Winter Session 2024: INDIA Bloc MPs Protest for Second Consecutive Day

New Delhi, December 4: INDIA bloc MPs continued their protest on Wednesday near Makar Dwar in the Parliament complex, demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Adani Group’s alleged wrongdoings, for the second day in a row. The MPs raised slogans and displayed banners calling for accountability over the indictment of the Adani Group, which faces charges of bribery and securities fraud by the US Department of Justice (DoJ) and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

In addition to the protest, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, along with Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other opposition MPs, planned to visit violence-hit Sambhal. However, they were stopped by police at the Ghazipur border on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.

Earlier, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi moved an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha, demanding an urgent discussion on the “silence” of the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) in the face of serious allegations against Adani. The motion pointed to the lack of response from SECI regarding the allegations against the conglomerate.

The protest comes amidst growing unrest in Parliament, where opposition MPs have been stalling proceedings since the start of the Winter Session over the Adani issue, the violence in Manipur, and the situation in Sambhal. On Monday, both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned multiple times due to the protests.

The Winter Session, which began on November 25, will continue until December 20, with tensions between the ruling government and opposition parties showing no signs of easing.
