Parliament Adjourned Amidst Ruckus In Winter Session, Set To Reconvene Monday

New Delhi [India]: Both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned until 3 PM on Monday during the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament, currently in its third week. The adjournments followed repeated disruptions as opposition parties demanded debates on critical national issues.

Political Exchanges in Rajya Sabha

Leader of the House JP Nadda accused the Congress of being a “tool” for forces aiming to destabilize India. He urged for a structured debate to address concerns and uphold democratic integrity.
Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition, refuted these allegations, asserting that Congress remains committed to democratic values and accused the BJP of diverting attention from pressing issues.

Opposition’s Concerns

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal blamed the government for the disruptions, alleging an unwillingness to discuss sensitive topics such as the Adani matter. He criticized the government for adjourning the House within seconds of commencement and for avoiding accountability.
Rahul Gandhi joined Opposition MPs in protests outside Parliament over the same issue. However, parties like the Trinamool Congress and Samajwadi Party did not participate.

Chairman’s Concerns Over Disruptions

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed concerns over persistent disruptions, emphasizing the need to respect the sanctity of parliamentary procedures. He called for constructive debates as the session marks the 25th year since the adoption of the Indian Constitution.
“No one should paralyze the House,” Dhankhar remarked, urging members to focus on governance and cooperation.

Session Outlook

The Winter Session began on November 25 and has been marred by frequent adjournments. Despite scheduled debates, the 12th day of the session witnessed a lack of substantial proceedings.
The session is expected to continue until December 20, with critical legislative business still pending amidst heightened political tensions.
