Paris [France]: The AI Action Summit in Paris underscored the importance of fostering a diverse AI ecosystem, emphasizing a human-centric, rights-based, and ethical approach to artificial intelligence.
With a strong focus on safety and security, the summit called for urgent action to address inequalities and enhance AI capacity-building in developing nations.
A total of 58 countries, along with the European Union and African Union, signed the joint statement issued after the summit, which was co-chaired by India and France. However, the United States and the United Kingdom notably declined to sign the declaration.
The joint statement, titled “Inclusive and Sustainable Artificial Intelligence for People and the Planet,” emphasized the need to reinforce AI diversity through an open, multi-stakeholder, and inclusive approach that ensures AI remains human rights-based, ethical, safe, secure, and trustworthy. It also stressed the urgency of reducing inequalities and supporting developing countries in AI advancements.
The summit acknowledged the importance of existing AI initiatives, including:
- UN General Assembly Resolutions
- Global Digital Compact
- UNESCO’s AI Ethics Recommendations
- G7 Hiroshima AI Process
- African Union Continental AI Strategy
- G20 AI initiatives
Key Priorities Outlined at the Summit
The summit set forth several priorities for responsible AI development, including:

✅ Encouraging AI innovation while preventing market monopolization
✅ Leveraging AI to positively shape labor markets and promote sustainable growth

✅ Enhancing international collaboration for coordinated AI governance
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on an official visit to France from February 10-12, co-chaired the AI Action Summit with French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday.
Following the summit, PM Modi will travel to the United States (February 12-13), where he is scheduled to meet US President Donald Trump and senior members of the US administration.
