MUMBAI, INDIA — PVR INOX announced on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, that the critically acclaimed love drama “Parineeta” will be re-released in a few theaters throughout India on August 29 for a week-long run. Fans of the movie are in for a treat. This special re-release celebrates the 20th anniversary of the film’s original release. It also symbolizes 20 years of Vidya Balan’s career in Indian cinema and 50 years of Vinod Chopra Films.
“Parineeta,” produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and directed by the late Pradeep Sarkar, is an important movie in Bollywood history because it was the first time Vidya Balan acted. The movie, based on the famous Bengali novel by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay from 1914, was a hit with both critics and audiences when it came out in 2005. People loved the soulful music by Shantanu Moitra and the strong performances by Saif Ali Khan, Vidya Balan, and Sanjay Dutt.
8K Restoration and 5.1 Surround Sound Make This a Visual and Auditory Spectacle
Vinod Chopra Films did a very careful job of restoring the film, which makes its re-release even more interesting. The production company is the first in India to restore its whole film archive in 8K resolution, with soundtracks redone in 5.1 surround sound. It took more than four years to finish this big undertaking, and a lot of the restoration work was done at the famous L’Immagine Ritrovata in Bologna, Italy.
Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra said of the repaired and remastered version, “Parineeta has always held a special place in my heart.” It’s not just a movie; it’s a voyage of love, beauty, and beautiful music. Each frame has its own feeling that changes with the plot in a way that hits home. And now, in the upgraded and restored 8K version, the pictures are even clearer and the lovely places are much more beautiful. I am really pleased of Pradeep Sarkar for making this movie. He showed how beautiful and grand ancient Kolkata was and how it still is.
Niharika Bijli, the head strategist at PVR INOX, agreed, saying, “We’re happy to bring Parineeta back to the movies.” People today want to view old movies on the big screen again. Parineeta is a classic movie that looks at love, class, and the changing role of women in India in the early 20th century in a beautiful way. It is a gem in Vidhu Vinodh Chopra’s long list of great movies. We are pleased to bring the movie back to the big screen in a beautiful restored print, so that both new viewers and fans who remember it can enjoy its cinematic beauty once more.
Emotional Return for the Cast
The re-release is very personal for Vidya Balan. “This is a really emotional time for me. It all started with Parineeta… Every shot of the movie has a piece of my heart in it, and I’ll always be grateful to Pradeep da (my Dada) and Mr. Vinod Chopra for believing in me. This movie has had a big impact on my acting career. People still remember the movie, the songs, and how it made them feel after all these years. People remark that every frame of the movie is like a painting, and that’s the magic of Pradeep Sarkar. “I hope that people and the new generation find old-world love through Parineeta,” she said.
Saif Ali Khan also thought about how the movie changed his career. “Parineeta was a turning point for me. It was a movie that let me show a calmer, more reserved side of myself. It had a certain old-world charm, depth, and grace that is hard to find. It was really great to work with Vidya, Pradeep da, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Sanju, and the whole team. He said, “The movie brings back very warm memories for me, and it will always be important to me.”
Sanjay Dutt said, “Parineeta will always be special to me.” It was a great movie made with a lot of love and honesty. This was my second collaboration with Vidhu Vinod Chopra, and it came soon after Munnabhai MBBS, which he also made. I liked playing a character who was so quiet and sincere because Pradeep Sarkar had a unique and sensitive vision. I have great recollections from the shoot, and I’m so glad that a new generation will be able to see it on the big screen.
The re-release gives both new and old fans a chance to witness “Parineeta” in a way that has never been seen before, honoring its lasting impact on Indian film.
