“Audience Got Tired of It”: Paresh Rawal Slams Excessive Abuse and Intimacy in Films, Urges Responsible Content
Veteran actor Paresh Rawal has raised concerns over the growing trend of abusive language and intimate scenes in web series and films, calling for more responsible storytelling. In a recent interview with Bollywood Bubble, Rawal emphasized that filmmakers must strike a balance between reality and discretion, particularly when families are the primary audience.
🔹 On Censorship and Society
When asked about his views on political parties pushing for ‘sanskari’ content, Rawal offered a sharp analogy:
“Let me tell you a joke, ‘A woman filed a complaint saying that a man was roaming around naked. The police came but didn’t see anything. So the woman said, ‘Climb up on a stool and look.’ The point is – if you’re determined to find filth, you’ll find it. Content is a mirror of society; we show what exists. But we must use our judgment wisely and judicially. Not everything in society needs to be shown as it is; some things can be portrayed suggestively or subtly.”
He noted that excessive use of profanity and sex scenes without narrative purpose alienated audiences:
“Baad mein log isliye uub gaye the, kyunki har doosri teesri series mein gaaliyan aati thi, sex scenes hote the — woh bhi bina kisi matlab ke (People got tired because every second or third series had abuses and sex scenes — and that too, without any real purpose).”
🔹 Government Intervention
Rawal acknowledged the government’s role in stepping in when such content became pervasive:
“It began to feel like these were just cheap tactics to attract eyeballs. But the audience got tired. And when the makers didn’t stop, the government had to step in. It is the government’s job to maintain public opinion and taste.”
He also pointed out how families were forced to leave the room during awkward scenes, especially during the pandemic lockdown, when shared viewing became more common.
🔹 Paresh Rawal’s Upcoming Film
Rawal is set to appear next in the supernatural thriller Nikita Roy, directed by Kussh S Sinha, son of veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha. The film also stars Sonakshi Sinha, Arjun Rampal, and Suhail Nayyar. Initially scheduled for release on June 27, it will now hit cinemas on July 18.
With Nikita Roy, Rawal takes on a grey-shaded role, offering fans a fresh look at his nuanced acting style.
Rawal’s views reflect a growing sentiment among audiences and artists alike — quality content doesn’t need shock value, just thoughtful storytelling.
