MUMBAI — Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor’s romantic comedy, Param Sundari, is off to a decent start at the box office, maintaining its hold despite mixed reviews. The film, which hit theaters on August 29, has impressed audiences with the lead pair’s chemistry and a popular soundtrack, even as it has been criticized for its predictable storyline.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned a respectable ₹7.25 crore on its opening day, which marked the fifth-biggest opening of Sidharth Malhotra’s career. The momentum continued on its second day, with the film pulling in approximately ₹9.22 crore. This strong performance brings the film’s total domestic box office collection to an estimated ₹16.47 crore in its first two days.
With this collection, Param Sundari has already surpassed the lifetime earnings of the recent romantic comedy Mere Husband Ki Biwi, which collected ₹12.85 crore. While some early comparisons were made to the box office juggernaut Chennai Express, the film’s earnings on its second day are far from the Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone-starrer’s ₹28.05 crore.
Directed by Tushar Jalota and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, Param Sundari tells the story of Param, a young man from Delhi who finds his soulmate, Sundari, a girl from Kerala, through an AI app. The film’s critical reception has been divided, with many praising the picturesque Kerala backdrops and the chemistry between the lead actors while criticizing the uninspired screenplay.
