Parag Jain Appointed As New RAW Chief, Succeeds Ravi Sinha

New Delhi: The central government on Saturday appointed senior IPS officer Parag Jain as the new Secretary of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), India’s premier external intelligence agency. Jain, a 1989-batch IPS officer of the Punjab cadre, will serve a two-year term, succeeding Ravi Sinha, whose tenure ends on June 30.

Currently, Parag Jain is heading the Aviation Research Centre (ARC)—a key technical intelligence wing under RAW that played a crucial role during Operation Sindoor by gathering actionable intelligence on Pakistan’s military movements.

Jain’s appointment is seen as a strategic move, given his extensive experience in intelligence operations, especially during recent high-stakes missions.

🧾 Career Highlights:

  • SSP, Chandigarh: Held a leadership role in policing and law enforcement.
  • International postings: Represented India in Canada and Sri Lanka, adding global intelligence exposure to his profile.
  • Jammu & Kashmir: Instrumental in implementing the Centre’s counter-terrorism strategy in the conflict-ridden region.

🔄 Transition in Leadership:

Jain will officially assume charge on Monday, July 1, taking over from Ravi Sinha, whose tenure as RAW chief has been described by insiders as less impactful in terms of major breakthroughs.

The Modi government’s decision reflects its focus on revitalizing intelligence operations and enhancing external surveillance capabilities, particularly with growing geopolitical tensions in the region.
