Riyan Parag Calls For Middle-Order Accountability After Huge Loss Against MI

Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India]: The Rajasthan Royals (RR) endured their eighth defeat of the IPL 2025 season, collapsing to a 100-run loss against a red-hot Mumbai Indians (MI) side, who now boast six consecutive victories—their longest winning streak since 2008 and 2017.

Mumbai Indians, after a poor start to the season, have now won seven matches overall, with this dominant display at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur further cementing their position as serious title contenders.

MI Batting Brilliance Sets Up Crushing Win

Batting first, MI posted a commanding 217/2, driven by clinical performances from their top and middle order.

  • Rohit Sharma (53 off 36) and Ryan Rickelton (61 off 38) laid a solid foundation with a 116-run opening stand.
  • Finishing power was provided by Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya, who remained unbeaten on 48 each from just 23 balls, adding a blistering 94-run partnership.

RR Collapse Under Pressure

Chasing 218, RR never found their footing:

  • Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (13) and Vaibhav Suryavanshi (0) fell early to Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar.
  • Riyan Parag (7) and Shimron Hetmyer (0) fell in the same over to Jasprit Bumrah, sparking a collapse.
  • Dhruv Jurel (11) and Shubham Dubey (15) offered resistance but couldn’t turn the tide.

RR were bowled out for 117 in just 14.3 overs, marking their second-heaviest defeat in IPL history, after their 112-run loss to RCB in 2023.

MI’s Bowling Dominates

  • Karn Sharma (3/19) and Trent Boult (3/24) were the standout bowlers.
  • Bumrah, Pandya, and Chahar chipped in with key wickets, showcasing MI’s well-rounded attack.

Parag Reflects on Defeat

Speaking post-match, RR captain Riyan Parag acknowledged MI’s clinical performance:

“You’ve got to give credit to MI for the way they batted… It’s up to the middle order—myself, Dhruv—to step up.”

Parag’s candid admission highlighted growing concerns over RR’s middle-order inconsistency, despite frequent good starts from their top order.
