Veracruz, Mexico – February 18 : Grammy-nominated singer Francisca Viveros Barradas, known by her stage name Paquita La Del Barrio, has passed away at the age of 77 in her home in Veracruz, Mexico, as confirmed by a statement from her official Instagram. Paquita was renowned for her empowering music, particularly the iconic song “Rata de dos Patas,” in which she boldly calls out a cheating ex.

While the cause of her death has not been disclosed, the statement on her social media expressed deep sorrow, asking for respect during this difficult time. It reads, “With deep pain and sadness, we confirm the death of our beloved Paquita la del Barrio, in her home in Veracruz, being a unique and unrepeatable artist, who will leave us an indelible mark in the hearts of all of us who know her and enjoy her music. Rest in peace, your music and legacy will live forever in our hearts.”

Throughout her career, Paquita la del Barrio earned three Grammy nominations, including nods for Best Mexican/Mexican-American Album in 2008, Best Regional Mexican or Tejano Album in 2012, and Best Regional Mexican Music Album in 2014. She was known for singing heartfelt songs that empowered women, particularly with lyrics that called out unfaithful men.

Paquita’s legacy extended beyond music, inspiring a 2017 bioseries produced by Sony Pictures and Teleset, which aired on Imagen Television in Mexico and Univision. The singer also ventured into acting with roles in TelevisaUnivision’s Velo de Novia in 2003 and a guest appearance on Amor de Barrio in 2015.

Paquita La Del Barrio’s remarkable career, filled with unforgettable songs such as “Mi Renuncia,” “Ando Tapada,” and “Destapa Me,” leaves a lasting impact on Latin music and culture.
