Pant now holds the record with 23 sixes in England, overtaking Stokes’ 21 sixes in South Africa—a record that stood until Lunch on Day 4.
The moment came in typical Pant fashion. Walking in at No. 5 after KL Rahul’s dismissal by Josh Tongue, Pant wasted no time. He survived a close miss early on and then lit up the session with his fearless shot-making. He opened his account with a pull shot for four, and in the very next ball, danced down the track to hammer a six over mid-off—his 22nd six in England, breaking the record.

But Pant wasn’t done. He nearly handed his wicket to Ben Stokes soon after when a mistimed shot flew to mid-off, only to be dropped by Zak Crawley. Stokes’ reaction said it all—shock and disbelief.
Unfazed, Pant kept going. He cut Tongue for four, slog-swept him for another six, and then turned his attention to off-spinner Shoaib Bashir, dispatching him in the next over.
Then came a comic twist. While attempting a trademark Pant slog, he lost control of his bat, which went flying to square leg. The crowd erupted in laughter, and the dressing room scene was even better: Jasprit Bumrah couldn’t stop laughing, and Mohammed Siraj was also seen in disbelief.
At Lunch, Pant remained unbeaten on 41 runs, with skipper Shubman Gill (24)* by his side. Their quickfire 51-run stand off just 53 balls set the tone for a thrilling post-lunch session.
Whether it’s records, drama, or pure entertainment—Rishabh Pant continues to be Indian cricket’s ultimate box office star.
