Panchkula Family Deaths: Police Await Forensic Reports, May File FIR If Suspicious Evidence Emerges

Panchkula, Haryana: Nearly a month after a tragic suspected mass suicide that shook Panchkula’s Sector 27 on May 26, police say the investigation remains active and that an FIR could be filed if any suspicious evidence arises from the pending forensic reports.

While no formal complaint has been filed by the deceased family’s relatives, a senior police officer clarified that a complaint is not mandatory for legal action. “If unusual circumstances come to light during the investigation—such as forensic signs of poisoning, strangulation, or foul play—we will act accordingly,” the officer said, drawing parallels with other medico-legal cases like unidentified bodies where autopsy findings initiate a case.

The deceased included a 42-year-old businessman, his 40-year-old wife, his parents aged 70 and 66, and their three children—a 13-year-old son and 11-year-old twin daughters. All were found unresponsive inside a car parked near a house in Sector 27, late at night. The family had recently moved from Dehradun to Panchkula and were living in a rented house in Saketri for the past two months.

Suicide Notes and Evidence Under Review

Police recovered two suicide notes, allegedly written by the businessman, citing financial losses and mental stress but blaming no one. The notes, now sent to handwriting experts for verification, delayed the registration of any abetment charges. Police are also analyzing viscera samples, food remains, and three mobile phones, of which only one was accessible.

According to investigators, CCTV footage showed the family leaving their Saketri home in the morning, renting two rooms at Sector 12 Bhawan, and later reaching Sector 27 by 6:30 pm. Their bodies were discovered around 10:30 pm.

History of Financial Struggles

The businessman reportedly had a string of failed ventures—including in scrap processing, tourism, and hospitality—and was working as a driver while attempting to earn through social media. These financial pressures are suspected to have played a key role in the tragic incident.

Police sources confirmed that bank records and transactions of the family were scrutinized but withheld detailed findings pending completion of the forensic process.

As of now, the case remains open, and authorities urge the public not to speculate until final reports are available.
