Music composer and singer Palash Muchhal has taken legal action after fresh controversy erupted around him following reports that his wedding with Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana was called off. Marathi actor and producer Vidnyan Mane recently accused Muchhal of cheating him of ₹40 lakh and also made personal allegations regarding the composer’s relationship with Mandhana.
Responding strongly, Muchhal has now filed a ₹10 crore defamation case, calling the allegations “false, outrageous and highly defamatory”.
Palash Muchhal Issues Legal Notice
Palash announced the legal action through his Instagram account on Saturday evening, stating that his lawyer has sent a formal defamation notice to Mane.
“A legal notice of defamation of ₹10 crore has been sent by my lawyer Shreyansh Mithare to Sangli-based Vidnyan Mane for his false, outrageous and highly defamatory accusations made with the deliberate intent to malign my reputation and character,” Muchhal wrote.
What Are the Allegations?
According to a report by PTI, 34-year-old Vidnyan Mane approached police in Maharashtra’s Sangli district, alleging that Muchhal cheated him of ₹40 lakh. However, no First Information Report (FIR) has been registered so far.
As per the complaint, Mane claimed he met Muchhal in Sangli on December 5, 2023, where discussions took place about investing in film production. Muchhal allegedly offered Mane a chance to invest as a producer in his upcoming project ‘Nazaria’.
The complaint further alleged that:
- Mane was told he could earn ₹12 lakh in profit on an investment of ₹25 lakh after the film’s release on OTT platforms
- Muchhal also allegedly promised Mane a role in the film
- The two met multiple times, after which Mane claims he transferred a total of ₹40 lakh by March 2025
According to Mane, the project was never completed, and despite repeated requests, he did not receive his money back, prompting him to approach the police.
Personal Allegations Spark Further Controversy
In addition to financial claims, Mane also accused Muchhal of being unfaithful to Smriti Mandhana prior to their planned wedding, further fuelling public scrutiny around the composer.
Muchhal has strongly denied all allegations and has chosen to address the matter strictly through legal channels.
Legal Battle Ahead
With a ₹10 crore defamation notice now issued, the matter appears headed for a legal showdown. While police have yet to register an FIR in the cheating case, Muchhal’s legal move signals an aggressive pushback against what he terms an attempt to damage his reputation.
