Pakistan’s Army Attache In UK Makes Throat Slit Gesture At Indian Community Protestors

London [UK]: More than 500 British Indians staged a powerful protest outside the Pakistan High Commission in London on Friday, condemning the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, and demanding accountability from Pakistan for its alleged support of terrorism.

The protest, marked by Indian flags, placards, and slogans, turned tense after a senior Pakistan Army officer, identified as Colonel Taimur Rahat, was caught on camera making a throat-slitting gesture toward the demonstrators. Rahat serves as the Pakistan Army and Air Advisor at the High Commission in London.

Viral Video Sparks Outrage

Videos circulating on social media show Col. Rahat standing inside the mission premises and making a threatening gesture, sparking widespread condemnation. Protest organisers and diaspora leaders have called this “a provocation” and “a violation of diplomatic norms.”

“This is not just insensitivity—it is provocation. The Pakistani authorities have crossed every boundary of diplomacy and humanity,” said a protest organiser.

Protest Highlights:

  • Protestors decried the Pahalgam attack, which killed 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen, as a Pakistan-sponsored act of terror.
  • The Pakistan High Commission allegedly played loud celebratory music during the protest, further angering mourners and demonstrators.
  • Calls were made for the UK Government to summon Pakistan’s High Commissioner and demand an explanation for the High Commission’s conduct.

Global Solidarity:

The protest also saw support from the Jewish community, with an Indo-Jewish protester drawing parallels between the Pahalgam attack and the October 7 Hamas attacks on Israel.

“This terrorism is fed by the Pakistani Islamist regime. India and Israel face the same enemy: Islamist radicalisation,” he said, expressing unwavering support for India.

Demands Raised by the Protestors:

  1. The UK Government must summon Pakistan’s High Commissioner for an official explanation.
  2. Pakistan must publicly condemn the Pahalgam killings and cease sponsoring terrorism.
  3. Diplomatic pressure must be applied to bring the perpetrators and financiers to justice.

India’s Diplomatic Response to Pahalgam Attack:

In response to the April 22 attack, the Indian Government announced several measures:

  • Closure of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari.
  • Suspension of the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistani nationals.
  • Reduction of diplomatic staff in High Commissions on both sides.
  • Halt of the Indus Waters Treaty, signed in 1960.
