Karachi: Pakistani actor and model Humaira Asghar Ali, 32, was found dead in her apartment in Karachi under mysterious circumstances. The discovery was made on Wednesday after a court-appointed bailiff broke into her fourth-floor residence during an eviction over unpaid rent.
According to Gulf News, preliminary investigations indicate that Humaira may have died in late 2024, and her body had been left undiscovered for months. Shockingly, her father and brother have refused to claim her body.
“The expiry dates of food and drinks in the refrigerator are from September 2024. The last outgoing and incoming activity on her phone also dates back to October 2024. Both SIMs in her phone have been inactive since then. Electricity to the apartment was disconnected around the same time due to non-payment of bills,” said DIG South Asad Raza.
The apartment next to hers was vacant, which likely explains why no neighbors noticed any foul odor over the months.
Authorities found that her last WhatsApp activity was on October 7, 2024, and a message from her stylist dated October 20 remained unread. Her last Instagram post was uploaded on September 30, 2024. These digital traces suggest she may have died sometime in October 2024. The decomposed state of her body has made it difficult to determine an exact cause of death, and police have not ruled out foul play. Toxicology and forensic reports are awaited.
❗ Family Refuses Custody of the Body
Despite her fame on TikTok and Instagram, Humaira reportedly led a solitary life in recent years. According to the report, she had been living alone for the past seven years and was rarely seen in public, except for professional engagements.
Her father, Dr. Asghar Ali, a retired army doctor, refused to take responsibility for her remains. “Her father declined to take custody (of her body),” DIG Asad said. Her brother also refused, though her brother-in-law has agreed to travel from Lahore to handle the last rites.
In the event her brother-in-law does not assume responsibility, members of the entertainment industry and the Sindh Culture Department have volunteered to ensure she receives a dignified burial.
As per police, the bailiff was accompanied by officers when the body was discovered, confirming that eviction proceedings led to the shocking revelation of Humaira’s death.
