Pakistan Claims X Account Hacked After Post Pleads For Loans Amid Indian Strikes; India Responds To Drone Attacks With Force

Islamabad [Pakistan]: Pakistan has claimed that its Economic Affairs Division’s official account on the social media platform X was hacked, after a post surfaced appealing to the international community for additional loans following losses caused by India’s ongoing Operation Sindoor. The post, which also urged global intervention to prevent further escalation, was labelled “fake” by the Pakistani government.

The controversial post appeared amid increasing pressure on Pakistan’s economy as India’s Operation Sindoor continues to dismantle terrorist infrastructure and support networks in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).

In response, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Fact Checker posted a screenshot of the loan appeal and denied its authenticity, stating:

“The account was hacked.”

Despite the denial, Pakistan’s economic struggles remain severe. The country is currently the fourth-largest debtor to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), owing approximately USD 8.8 billion. On Monday, Moody’s issued a warning that sustained tension with India could negatively affect Pakistan’s economic growth, fiscal consolidation, and overall macroeconomic stability.

Meanwhile, the Indian Army announced that it had successfully repelled and responded to several drone attacks and ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the western border and the Line of Control (LoC) during the night of May 8 to May 9.

“Pakistan Armed Forces launched multiple attacks using drones and other munitions along entire Western Border on the intervening night of 08 and 09 May 2025. Pak troops also resorted to numerous cease fire violations (CFVs) along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. The drone attacks were effectively repulsed and befitting reply was given to the CFVs. Indian Army remains committed to safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Nation. All nefarious designs will be responded with force,” the Indian Army said in a statement.

Earlier that day, Indian forces intercepted and shot down over 50 Pakistani drones during a large-scale anti-drone operation conducted along the LoC and International Border (IB), according to defence sources.

The Indian Armed Forces also neutralised a large-scale drone and missile attack launched by Pakistan targeting military installations in Northern and Western India on the night of May 7–8. As part of its counterstrike, India reportedly destroyed a Pakistani air defence system in Lahore.

At a press briefing on Thursday, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Colonel Sofiya Qureshi confirmed that India’s air defence systems had effectively neutralised the threats posed by Pakistan’s offensive:

“This morning, the Indian Armed Forces targeted Air Defence Radars and systems at a number of locations in Pakistan. Indian response has been in the same domain with same intensity as Pakistan. It has been reliably learnt that an Air Defence system at Lahore has been neutralised,” she said.

Colonel Qureshi further elaborated on the attempted Pakistani offensive:

“On the night of 07-08 May 2025, Pakistan attempted to engage a number of military targets in Northern and Western India including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj, using drones and missiles. These were neutralised by the Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems. The debris of these attacks is now being recovered from a number of locations that prove the Pakistani attacks.”
