Abu Dhabi: Pakistan beats Sri Lanka by five wickets in the Super Four match on Tuesday, keeping their prospects of making it to the Asia Cup 2025 final alive.
Sri Lanka batted first and could only score 133 runs with Shaheen Afridi taking three wickets. Hussain Talat and Haris Rauf each took two wickets. Kamindu Mendis fought hard for Sri Lanka with a tough 50, but he didn’t get any help from the other end.
Pakistan lost a lot of wickets early on when chasing 134, but they came back strong. Talat and Mohammad Nawaz put up a very important partnership to keep the innings steady. Nawaz’s late fireworks ended the chase in just 18 overs, keeping Pakistan’s hopes alive.
This win gives Pakistan 2 points from 2 matches in the Super Four stage, which keeps them in the running for a spot in the final.
Possible Ways to Qualify:
Pakistan has a good chance of making it to the final if they beat Bangladesh in their last Super Four encounter.
If Bangladesh loses to India, their game against Pakistan will be like a semi-final.
If Bangladesh beats India, they get 4 points. If Pakistan beats Bangladesh and India loses to Sri Lanka, they can still qualify.
If India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh all end up with 4 points, the race could go to Net Run Rate (NRR).
If Pakistan loses to Bangladesh and India loses both of its last two games, Bangladesh will automatically qualify. The second finalist will depend on NRR again.
Upcoming Matches:
Wednesday: India vs. Bangladesh
