Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised his country’s air force at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Friday, saying that Pakistani pilots shot down seven Indian jets during a military conflict earlier this year.
Sharif called the pilots of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) “falcons” and said, “Our falcons took flight and turned 7 Indian jets into scrap.”
Pakistan has said in the past that it shot down five Indian Air Force (IAF) jets, but India has always called these claims “baseless” because Pakistan has not been able to offer any proof.
Background: Operation Sindoor
The fight started with Operation Sindoor, which India started on May 7, 2025, after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam that murdered 26 civilians. India hit nine terror-linked targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) with precise air and missile strikes.
New Delhi stressed that its actions were careful and did not make things worse. They only targeted terrorist infrastructure and stayed away from civilian and military assets. Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) asked for a cease-fire in negotiations with his Indian counterpart, which ended the fighting.
Sharif and Trump Meet at the White House
Sharif, who was with Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir, also visited with US President Donald Trump at the White House while he was in the US.
The leaders talked about security in the area, working together to fight terrorism, and efforts to end the fighting between India and Pakistan. Sharif called Trump a “man of peace” for his role in mediating, and he said that Trump’s “brave and decisive” leadership helped bring about the truce between the two countries.
