Islamabad: The Pakistan Army On Friday, said that 30 Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants who were involved in the deaths of 11 soldiers, including a Lt Colonel and a Major, were killed in a series of revenge operations in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) region of Orakzai.
The fighting happened earlier this week when intelligence-based operations were going after TTP members in the Jamal Maya region of Orakzai. The army said that all 30 people who did it, known as “Fitna al-Khawarij” by the government, were killed after a lot of gunfire.
The army said, “These successful operations have avenged the horrible act and brought the main criminals to justice.” The proscribed TTP has been given the official name Fitna al-Khawarij, which is a name that has been used in the past to describe violent extremist groups in early Islamic history.
Responses from the government and the military:
The Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, lauded the troops for putting their lives on the line to protect the country.
President Asif Ali Zardari praised the security personnel for their “brave” work.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that Pakistan would not let the Fitna al-Khawarij terrorists hide anywhere in the country.
Terrorism is still on the rise in Pakistan, with overall violence up 46% in the third quarter of 2025. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is still the most afflicted area, with 638 deaths (71% of all deaths) and 221 violent occurrences (67% of all incidents). Balochistan also had more than 25% of the deaths (230) and incidents (85).
The recent operations show that Pakistan is still fighting terrorism, especially against police, law enforcement, and military personnel in KPK and Balochistan.
