Earlier, the United States also expressed solidarity with India. Secretary Marco Rubio, in a conversation with Jaishankar, extended his condolences and reiterated the US’s commitment to anti-terror cooperation with India.
According to US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce, Rubio said:
“The Secretary expressed his sorrow for the lives lost in the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, and reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to cooperation with India against terrorism.”
Rubio also urged dialogue between India and Pakistan to avoid further escalation:
“He encouraged India to work with Pakistan to de-escalate tensions and maintain peace and security in South Asia,” Bruce added.
Jaishankar emphasized India’s firm resolve to bring the perpetrators and their supporters to justice:
“Discussed the Pahalgam terrorist attack with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio yesterday. Its perpetrators, backers, and planners must be brought to justice,” he posted on X.
