Ozzy Osbourne’s Legacy Soars On Charts Following His Passing at 76

Washington, DC – July 28, 2025 – The heavy metal world continues to mourn the loss of legendary singer Ozzy Osbourne, who passed away on Tuesday, July 22, at the age of 76. Despite the profound sadness, Osbourne’s indelible legacy is experiencing a powerful resurgence on the music charts as fans globally turn to his iconic discography to honor his memory.

His 2003 compilation album, “The Essential Ozzy Osbourne,” has surged back into prominence, earning nearly 44,000 equivalent album units between July 18 and 24. This impressive performance has propelled it to debut at No. 7 on the US albums chart, according to Luminate (as reported by Variety). Featuring timeless hits such as “Crazy Train,” “Diary of a Madman,” and “Mama, I’m Coming Home,” the album was streamed over 48 million times during the same tracking week, securing a debut at No. 9 on Billboard’s Top Streaming Albums. This marks “The Essential Ozzy Osbourne’s” tenth top 10 album on the Billboard 200, having previously peaked at No. 7 on its initial release in 2003 and No. 21 in the UK.

Ozzy Osbourne, who had battled Parkinson’s disease, spinal injuries, and other chronic conditions for many years, spent his final months in a remarkably “energized” state. A highlight of this period was an iconic reunion with his Black Sabbath bandmates and a massive farewell concert at Villa Park in Birmingham, UK, on July 5, 2025, just weeks before his passing. This emotional event saw Ozzy, despite his physical challenges, perform from a black leather chair, delivering a poignant “final bow” to tens of thousands of adoring fans.

Sources close to the family revealed that this farewell concert provided the “Prince of Darkness” with “the best exit.” A friend of Osbourne’s shared that the “post-show high” permeated the remaining days of his life, stating, “It energised him — it filled him with life. He’d really been slowing down, and then after the show, he was really back to being himself. It’s a beautiful ending.”

The global outpouring of tributes has continued. Most recently, actor Johnny Depp made a surprise appearance on stage with rock icon Alice Cooper at London’s O2 Arena. On Friday, July 25, during Cooper’s sold-out show, Depp, 62, joined Cooper – who was notably wearing an Ozzy Osbourne T-shirt – to perform Black Sabbath’s seminal 1970 hit “Paranoid.” Depp, a bandmate of Cooper’s in the supergroup Hollywood Vampires, walked on stage with his guitar during the song, contributing to a powerful and emotional tribute. Cooper later raised his fist in the air as the song concluded, in a clear gesture of respect. This concert also coincided with the release of “The Revenge of Alice Cooper,” the first new album from the original Alice Cooper band in over 50 years.

Ozzy Osbourne’s extensive chart history as a solo artist includes numerous top 10 entries on the Billboard 200, such as “Patient Number 9” (No. 3 in 2022), “Ordinary Man” (No. 3, 2020), “Scream” (No. 4, 2010), “Black Rain” (No. 3, 2007), “Down to Earth” (No. 4, 2001), “Ozzmosis” (No. 4, 1995), “No More Tears” (No. 7, 1991), “Tribute” (with Randy Rhoads, No. 6 in 1987), and “The Ultimate Sin” (No. 6, 1986). As the legendary frontman of Black Sabbath, he also achieved top 10 success with albums like “13” (No. 1 in 2013) and “Master of Reality” (No. 8, 1971).
