All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Chief Asaduddin Owaisi launched a scathing attack on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for approving a USD 1 billion loan to Pakistan, accusing the global body of effectively “funding a militant organisation.”
In a strongly worded statement to media, Owaisi said:
“The IMF has sanctioned a loan not for the people of Pakistan, but to a state sponsor of terror. This money will not fight poverty or empower women—it will fund terrorist activities against India.”
Owaisi’s remarks come just days after the IMF Board approved the first review of Pakistan’s economic reform programme under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF). This enables Pakistan to receive an immediate disbursement of approximately USD 1 billion, citing “strong programme implementation.”
“Pakistan is a Failed State”
Owaisi did not mince words, labeling Pakistan as a “failed state” that poses a grave threat to global peace, particularly due to its nuclear weapons.
“Osama Bin Laden was found in a Pakistani military area, protected by their establishment. If the world doesn’t act now to disarm Pakistan, we are inviting disaster,” Owaisi said.
Calls for Renewed FATF Action
He also pushed for Pakistan’s re-entry into the FATF grey list, emphasizing its past role in forcing Islamabad to act on terror trials linked to the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
“Only when Pakistan was grey-listed did it begin acting on evidence provided by Indian agencies. The international community must stop enabling a nation that actively undermines peace in South Asia.”
India’s Strategic Stance
India abstained from the IMF vote not due to neutrality, but because IMF voting protocols do not allow a formal “no” vote, according to diplomatic sources. However, Indian officials expressed deep concern, warning that continued funding of Pakistan could undermine international norms and embolden terror proxies.
Top government sources confirmed that India will treat any future terror attack as an “act of war”, signaling a more aggressive posture in the region.
Global Silence Questioned
Owaisi also condemned the United States, Germany, and Canada for their silence despite clear evidence of Pakistan’s terror sponsorship.
“The West is complicit. They know where this money will go and still stay quiet. This is not diplomacy—this is negligence at the cost of global security,” he said.

- Urges global disarmament of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons.
- Recommends Pakistan’s return to the FATF grey list.
- India maintains a policy of retaliatory response to future terror acts.
- Indian government abstains from IMF vote in protest of terror support.
