Reacting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi presenting a chadar for the Ajmer Sharif Dargah on the occasion of Urs, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday criticized the gesture, calling it superficial amidst ongoing disputes involving mosques and dargahs across the country.
“Nothing is going to happen by sending a chadar, as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Sangh Parivar, and their organizations across the country are moving courts demanding excavations of dargahs and mosques,” said Owaisi.
The AIMIM chief further alleged, “If the Prime Minister wants, all this will stop. For the last ten years, there has been a BJP government and Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister. Conflict has erupted over more than seven mosques and dargahs in Uttar Pradesh, where the BJP is in power, and from where the Prime Minister is an MP. Sending a chadar won’t resolve these issues.”
On another front, Owaisi also commented on China’s construction activities in Ladakh. “The Centre is scared of China. They just need money from China for investment,” he remarked.
Speaking about the recent violence in Sambhal, Owaisi accused the administration of targeting a particular community. “The administration there is openly opposing a particular community. You need to ensure justice and not oppress them. Is there any permit granted to establish a police check post?” he questioned.
Earlier in the day, Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju offered the chadar on behalf of PM Modi at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah. Rijiju conveyed the Prime Minister’s message of brotherhood and peace.
“We are fortunate to come here. We have brought the chadar on behalf of PM Modi. I also read the message of PM Modi that we all, with an intent of brotherhood, will work for our society, country, and world peace,” Rijiju stated.
Rijiju also visited the Nizamuddin Aulia Dargah in Delhi on Friday to offer prayers. Accompanied by BJP Minority Morcha National President Jamal Siddiqui, he emphasized PM Modi’s message of unity and peace.
On Thursday, PM Modi personally handed over the chadar to Rijiju to be offered at Ajmer Sharif Dargah in honor of the 13th-century Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.
