Over 1.7 Million Pilgrims And 1 Million Kalpavasis Attend Mahakumbh Mela On Fifth Day

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) [India], January17 : As the Mahakumbh Mela continues in Prayagraj, over 1.78 million pilgrims and 1 million Kalpavasis visited the event by 4 pm on Friday, according to official data.

The data also revealed that more than 2.78 million people had taken a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam by the fifth day of the festival. As of January 16, the total number of devotees who have bathed at the Sangam has exceeded 70 million.

In terms of participation, by 2 pm on Friday, the Mahakumbh Mela had already seen over 1 million Kalpavasis and an equal number of pilgrims visiting the site.

To maintain law and order during the ongoing Mela and other upcoming events, the district administration has imposed prohibitory orders until February 28. The Additional Commissioner of Police, Prayagraj, issued the orders under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code, 2023, citing concerns over potential disruptions during upcoming religious festivals, including Mahakumbh 2025, Republic Day, and others such as Mauni Amavasya, Basant Panchami, and Mahashivratri.

The official statement emphasized the need to prevent any disturbance by anti-social elements, ensuring that religious celebrations and various competitive exams take place peacefully.

The Mahakumbh Mela, which began on January 13, will continue until February 26, with key bathing dates still to come, including January 29 (Mauni Amavasya – Second Shahi Snan), February 3 (Basant Panchami – Third Shahi Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).
