A disturbing case of privacy violation has surfaced on social media, drawing comparisons to a similar incident in Bengaluru earlier this year. An Instagram account, @mahim_update_, has come under public scrutiny for uploading reels of couples engaging in public displays of affection (PDA)—filmed without their consent in Mumbai’s Mahim area, particularly near the beaches.
Secretly photographing women in public transport is not just vile—it’s a serious crime. This is a gross violation of dignity and safety, and there must be zero tolerance for such behaviour.@OfficialBMRCL is a lifeline for lakhs — such shameful incidents cannot go unpunished.… pic.twitter.com/v5wsrSttrS

Within just three days, the account amassed over 2,000 followers, with only four videos posted. The clips have ignited widespread outrage and debates across platforms like Reddit and X (formerly Twitter) over ethical content creation, digital harassment, and the invasion of personal privacy.
A Reddit user, @InstaCelebGossips, was among the first to flag the account. The user’s post quickly gained traction as netizens condemned the account’s actions and urged Meta to take it down. Although the page has not yet been removed by Instagram, users have begun reporting it en masse.
“This kind of content violates people’s privacy, dignity, and can lead to real-world consequences. This must stop,” one user wrote on Reddit.
Not an Isolated Incident: Bengaluru Metro Case Still Fresh
The Mahim case is eerily similar to a May 2025 incident where an Instagram page, @metro_chicks, secretly uploaded videos of women on Bengaluru Metro trains, also without consent. The page had gained over 5,000 followers before it was reported and subsequently taken down.
The Bengaluru account was flagged by BJP MP PC Mohan, who denounced the content as a “blatant violation of privacy and dignity.”
“These actions are not only creepy but constitute a serious crime,” Mohan posted on X, while tagging the Bengaluru City Police to prompt swift action.
Bangalore South MP Tejasvi Surya also reacted strongly, calling it a “gross violation of dignity and safety.”
“There must be zero tolerance for such behaviour… This must never happen again,” Surya tweeted.
Wider Concerns and Call for Regulation
Both incidents have spotlighted the growing concern around digital voyeurism, urging platforms like Instagram and authorities to enforce stricter privacy rules. Many netizens are calling for legislative intervention, stronger enforcement of cyber laws, and increased awareness about online consent and dignity.
