Washington [US], February 20 : Actress Olivia Munn recently revealed a deeply traumatic experience she had while working on a film set. Speaking on a recent episode of Monica Lewinsky’s podcast, the The Newsroom star shared details about an unsettling situation, describing it as something “really not okay” that led her to file complaints with the studio.
“I had to file complaints with the studio, and there were a lot of other smaller issues that went along with it. But it escalated to a point where I was offered a lot of money,” Munn disclosed. “Seven figures to accept their apology, with them acknowledging the situation, but it came with an NDA,” she explained, referring to the offer made to her after the incident.
However, Munn chose not to name the film in question and admitted that she never publicly addressed the matter before, as she simply wanted to move past it. Reflecting on the experience, she said, “I just felt it was so wrong. And at this time, specifically, this was at the beginning of the MeToo/TimesUp movement.”
Munn recalled that this period coincided with the Harvey Weinstein scandal, which marked a turning point in Hollywood regarding the treatment of women. She expressed concerns that speaking out might undermine her credibility, as many were scrutinizing those who signed NDAs, suggesting that they did so for financial reasons.
Despite the pressure, Munn decided to follow her instincts and declined the settlement offer, even though it came with a significant financial incentive. “We walked out of there,” she said, recalling the moment with pride. “I remember feeling so proud when I walked out, so proud of myself.”
She acknowledged that her decision was driven by anger rather than careful thought, saying, “I didn’t think about negotiating. I didn’t think about anything besides how disrespectful that was.” However, Munn expressed that her actions were supported by those close to her, adding, “It’s not that I wouldn’t have ended up with the same decision, it’s that I made that decision based on anger, and that is something I had to learn how to do rein in and use for my benefit.”
Munn has a history of standing up against injustices on set. In 2018, she publicly advocated for a scene involving Steven Wilder Striegel to be cut from the film The Predator after discovering he was a registered sex offender, successfully pushing 20th Century Fox to remove him from the movie.
