O Romeo Box Office Verdict: Hit or Flop? Shahid Kapoor–Vishal Bhardwaj Film Crosses ₹100 Crore Worldwide

O Romeo, starring Shahid Kapoor and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, has crossed the ₹100 crore mark at the global box office in just over two weeks. But does that automatically make it a hit? Here’s a detailed breakdown of its performance.

Opening and Box Office Trend

Released on February 13, the gangster drama opened to ₹8.50 crore net in India. The film saw a healthy jump of around 45% on Saturday, but collections dipped on Sunday due to the India–Pakistan T20 World Cup clash.

  • Opening weekend (India net): ₹30 crore
  • Opening weekend (Worldwide gross): ₹45 crore
  • Two-week India net: ₹62 crore
  • Two-week Worldwide gross: ₹98 crore
  • Expected worldwide total (Feb 27): ₹100+ crore

After its first weekend, the film’s momentum slowed considerably, with daily collections falling below ₹5 crore and later stabilising at around ₹1.2–1.5 crore per day.

Budget vs Earnings: The Real Picture

Trade estimates suggest the film’s total landing cost (production + marketing) is between ₹100–120 crore. Even at a conservative ₹100 crore cost, the film would need to earn ₹100 crore net in India to break even.

Currently, its India net stands at approximately ₹62–72 crore (including projections), which means it is still significantly short of the breakeven mark. With collections slowing, reaching ₹100 crore net domestically appears unlikely.

Final Verdict: Hit or Flop?

While crossing ₹100 crore worldwide is a respectable milestone, box office verdicts depend on profitability rather than gross earnings alone. Based on current trends and recovery pace, O Romeo is likely to be labelled a box office underperformer, with a strong possibility of being declared a flop unless there is an unexpected surge in collections.

About the Film

Inspired by a chapter from Hussain Zaidi’s Mafia Queens of Mumbai, the film explores a turbulent tale of love, passion and crime. The ensemble cast includes Triptii Dimri, Vikrant Massey, Tamannaah Bhatia, Avinash Tiwary, Disha Patani, Farida Jalal and Nana Patekar.

Despite high expectations from the Shahid Kapoor–Vishal Bhardwaj collaboration, the film’s commercial outcome now hinges on its final theatrical run and ancillary recoveries.
