Former world number one Novak Djokovic will compete at the Shanghai Masters next month, tournament organisers announced on Tuesday.
“He’s back… Our 4-time champ will return to Shanghai this year,” organisers shared on social media ahead of the event, which starts on October 1.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion has not played an official match since his semi-final defeat to Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open earlier this month. Following that loss, Djokovic, 38, remained vague about his schedule for the remainder of the 2025 season, having participated in significantly fewer tournaments than in previous years.
Before this announcement, the world number four had only confirmed participation in the Athens 250 event from November 2–8, which replaced the Belgrade tournament on this year’s calendar. His involvement in the Paris Masters (October 27–November 2) and the ATP Finals in Turin (November 9–16), the two major tournaments after Shanghai, is still unconfirmed.
Djokovic is a four-time champion at the Shanghai Masters, having lifted the trophy in 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2018.
