Nainital/New Delhi, May 2: Continuous rainfall since early morning in Nainital and neighboring hilly regions has disrupted normal life, as per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The sudden mountain downpour has led to a sharp drop in temperatures, leaving tourists confined indoors and affecting schoolgoers.
The IMD had earlier forecast isolated to scattered rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds (40–60 kmph), across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan from May 1–6. Similar conditions are expected in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
Key weather alerts include:
- Isolated hailstorms in Uttarakhand on May 1 and 3
- Thundersqualls (50–60 kmph) likely on May 3
- Advisory for indoor shelter and power safety measures
In Delhi-NCR, early morning rainfall on Friday led to massive waterlogging, uprooted trees, vehicle breakdowns, and severe traffic congestion in areas like Minto Road, Delhi Airport, and Gurgaon.
The IMD has urged citizens to stay indoors, avoid electrical hazards, and refrain from taking shelter under trees or near unstable structures.
