Noida Schools Closed: Winter Break Extended For Classes Up To 8 Until January 17

NOIDA, GAUTAM BUDDH NAGAR — Relief for students in Noida and Greater Noida continues as the district administration ordered all schools to remain closed for students up to Class 8 on Friday, January 16, and Saturday, January 17, 2026. The decision follows a persistent cold wave that has seen temperatures in the region plummet as low as 2.9°C in some areas of Delhi-NCR.

1. Scope of the Order

The directive, issued by Basic Education Officer Rahul Panwar on the instructions of the District Magistrate, is mandatory for all educational institutions.

  • Affected Classes: Nursery to Class 8.
  • Boards Covered: CBSE, ICSE, IB, UP Board, and all other recognized boards.
  • Institutions: Applies to all government, government-aided, and private schools.
  • Staff Note: While students are off, teachers and administrative staff are required to report to school as per their usual schedule to handle official work.

2. Weather Forecast & Visibility Concerns

The extension was necessitated by the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) warning of “very dense fog” and extreme chill.

  • Current Temperatures: Noida is currently recording minimums between 5°C and 6°C, with maximums struggling to cross 19°C.
  • Visibility Hazard: Fog is expected to reduce visibility to less than 50 meters in the early morning hours, making the commute for school buses and young children highly hazardous.
  • Upcoming Relief: The IMD predicts a gradual rise in temperatures from January 18 onwards as wind directions shift, potentially bringing the daytime high to 21°C by next week.

3. Warning for Schools

The district administration has taken a stern stance on compliance to ensure the safety of young children.

“Strict action will be taken in accordance with the rules against any school found violating the order by reopening during the closure period,” the official order stated.

Parents are advised to stay in touch with school management via official WhatsApp groups or portals for any further updates regarding the reopening on Monday, January 19.
