Assam CM reaffirms India’s firm stance on national security after Bilawal Bhutto’s provocative remarks over Indus Waters Treaty.
Guwahati (Assam), April 27:
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has lashed out at Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for his anti-India remarks, warning that “no one can deter India from taking decisive revenge” in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack.
In a scathing post on X, Sarma accused Pakistan of having a “long and bloody history of betrayal,” recalling that it was responsible for the deaths of Bilawal’s grandfather and mother. “It is a tragedy that an unworthy son today chooses to dishonour even their sacrifice,” Sarma wrote.
He added, “I extend my deepest condolences to him in advance, for the path he (Zardari) has chosen will bring only disgrace. Let it be absolutely clear, no one can deter India from taking decisive revenge when it comes to safeguarding its honour and its people.”
Reaffirming India’s national security policy, Sarma asserted, “Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India will hunt down terror and destroy terror infrastructure wherever it exists in the world. India’s national security is non-negotiable.”
The controversy erupted after Bilawal Bhutto, speaking at a rally in Sukkur on Friday, condemned India’s decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty and issued a provocative warning: “The Indus River is ours and will remain ours; either our water will flow from this Indus or your blood.”
India’s suspension of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty came after the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen. In response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting, announcing that the treaty would remain in abeyance until Pakistan “credibly and irrevocably” ends its support for cross-border terrorism.
As diplomatic tensions rise, Indian leaders continue to send a strong message that national security and territorial rights are non-negotiable.
